Thanks for the welcome JoAnn. Darlene, that would be great. A special welcome to our two knew folks, Justin and Denice. This is a fun group. You'll like it.

After seeing the way everyone seemed to work so well together in that group, I'm sure that I'll be comfortable. I'm excited and worried at the same time. So, we'll see how this goes. Have a wonderful week.

Hi everyone. It seems so odd to be going to a new site...and at the same time so familiar. I've kind of missed you all for the past couple of weeks. Welcome to the newby's! You'll enjoy being a part of this group. You'll find the group very supportive and encouraging. We are always willing to try new things.

I love the fact that there are now eight of us. The more the merrier. Is merrier a word??? What chapters are we supposed to read? Did I miss seeing that somewhere? Oh boy! I do not have my glasses. i can't read what I have typed. See you on Monday. Have a fabulous weekend. I'm hoping for sun.

This morning, our PE teacher made the comment to my teaching partner that our district is looking at using their blank spots in their schedule to work in the library, checking out books to students. All morning (As I am WASL proctoring) I have been reading the various studies about the importance of a strong library media center.--I decided to write our personnel director and let him know what the studies show....

We just received information from our district superintendent regarding the planned budgetary cuts for next year...And you guessed it, I will not be getting our building's library position, because it is not going to be filled. This is one of the cuts. I am very disappointed. They are always talking about what is best for kids...This certainly is not.

I'm sorry about the library position, Pam. We haven't heard yet in District 81. I just have received two of David Loertscher's books (one more still yet to come) and am looking forward to reading them this weekend. This afternoon I was in the library with my third graders doing a library bibliography research project using the Big 6. Our librarion has been collaborating with us on this project. The kids are excited. They are using both book and online resources. This is the type of learning which is best for kids. Are we going to have this available without our librarians? Lack of this type of research is not what is best for kids. We need to do some serious advocacy in behalf of librarians.

You are excellent examples of how when teachers know the power of libraries and collaboration with Teacher-Librarians that they become our advocates. When budgeting is tight, we need those advocates. So sorry Pam for all your hard work this year for a particular goal of helping your school. I like to think that another door will open for you.

Amanda, Since I do not have your email address, I figured this would be the best way to contact you. I just have a couple of questions about the brochure. Are you using Publisher? If you would send me an email at jikehara@mlsd.org, I'd appreciate it.

It is exciting for me to read what I have always believed that teacher librarians and school libraries are extremely important to children, teachers, schools, parents and our communities. Even as a small child I knew that the school library was an important place where I would become more intelligent. Equally important, the school librarian instilled the love of books in a small farm girl. A gift I still cherish as an adult.

Pam I tried to reach you this weekend. I feel angry about what has happened in our district. I believe that this will be a one year crisis for our school libraries. East Valley's school board cares about the children so this plan will fail and change. I am certain that you will be in the Trent Library where you belong. You are a fabulous reading teacher and you have worked hard to become a teacher librarian. Trent students, teachers, the Trent community and you have been family for a long time. You will be their librarian.

Thank you all for the kind remarks. I will continue "keeping on" and fighting the good fight. I know it will be an uphill battle, but one that is definitely worth fighting for. In the end, I know that we will all be stronger.

Though it is not due until May 21, I'd like to get together with you all and plan the aesthetic and function for the website. I realize that it will include nearly every single aspect of the brochure, but I'd still like to meet sooner than later, because I know how busy we all can get and time will just speed right by.

After purchasing toilet paper on the way home. I crept into my nice quiet house (my lovely husband put the kids to bed) I fixed this here wiki. I feel my collaborative nature is not into full gear this quarter. I think we should be more collaborative on our assignments. Lets put up what we are working on so we can get some ideas. We all seem to be in such different places...not so cohesive. It's probably the fact that we feel our districts don't give a crap what we do. This won't last forever.

Hi all. Wanted to let Everyone know...TWO full time library positions are open on Central Valley's website...www.cvsd.org. Central Valley is very supportive of its librarians. I personally have decided not to apply because my fiancee (soon to be husband) is also a teacher in my same district...and there are a lot of schedule differences between East Valley and Central Valley.

Pam have a fabulous weekend. I'll be thinking of you. We can not Wait to hear all the details. See you Monday at your school and the Valley Library.

I must apologize for the procrastination - if that is what it can be called. I was working from 7:15am - 3:00pm, and again from 6-8:30pm. I found out this morning (officially) that there will be no Library position where I am currently. Instead, they will have one that comes in from an elementary school three days a week, and the other two days will just have to deal. What a pathetic and disappointing end to my year. Distraught I am.

Justin, sorry to hear about the position at your school. You do need to apply with district 81. Keep you eye on the employment page. I am thinking positive about the librarians and with the decisions being made, I think many of the librarians may decide to go into classrooms and leave a few openings for us. I think I heard one high school or middle school person may be retiring. I will keep my ear out. I am off to Montana this afternoon, so have a good weekend Everyone! One monday we could possibly have a new wife and father, and how can we think about legislator letters with all that excitement.

Ok, if anyone reads this. An easy way to add your part to the wiki is to click on new page and paste your stuff on that page then save it. Then go to our page and click on edit then click on the link. You then select Wiki page and type what you want your link to say like "JoAnn's input" and then I think I hit save or something.(I am going from short-term memory here, so I may have missed a step) I did not try to link directly to my document, but I think that is how Amy and Justin did it? Sorry I didn't return calls last night, I had a friend who just got out of the hospital and was in the middle of a move at the time. She needed a little help.

Hi all. I worked on my portion of the paper last night...and somehow lost it before I could send it to you. Very upsetting. Of course, it was late. We just got a new computer with windows 2007. It is just different enough, that I am a little unfamiliar with the tool bar. Also, apparently we are "cookie unabled"...so I sent it to as many of you, as I had an email address for...Everyone except Karen (Sorry Karen). I think it was just after 12:00 (didn't quite make the deadline). Justin, I am very sorry to hear about your position. If you read my earlier comment a couple of days ago, there are two library positions currently posted on CV's website. Please feel free to edit my work. I did think this morning that I should have specifically mentioned computer software as a supply. Have a great weekend. I realized this morning that this is the last day I will be single. Wow!

Help! I am also having trouble putting my info.on. I tried Thursday, but couldn't do it. I tried again this morning (Sat.) using Joann's directions, but my tech skills are lacking in this area. If anyone could help out here, it would be much appreciated. Pam, thinking about your exciting day. Have fun in Montana, Joann. Is the baby here yet, Justin. Let us all know. Something better will be out there for you, Justin.

I have an interview in Walla Walla for the elem library job on Friday!!! Help...suggestions?

Pamela Timmer said

at 4:23 pm on May 30, 2007

Amanda: How exciting! Good luck...I will be thinking of you, and praying for you. Go on-line and get some information regarding their district and specifically the school and library media center if you can. I think you should stress the importance of the library as the central hub of the school, and the important role of the library media specialist as an academic leader working in collaboration with the elementary teachers--sort of like our "elevator speech." I am sure you will be asked a series of questions, but generally they will give you a minute or two at the end to make a comment. Remember the state CBA's for 5th grade Social Studies. I think our libraries are perfect to help with those. Once again, Good Luck!

I am excited for the Walla Walla kids and you. I realize you have already had your interview. They are so nerve racking. I always go out to the car and critize everything I said during the interview. I also think of a thousand better things I should have said. Hopefully, you don't do these actions.
I hope the team got to see your warmth, humor and intelligence. You are so motivated, driven and have fabulous creative ideas. MAY THE BEST SCHOOL WIN!!! They'd be so lucky to have you.

I've made a role of principal page, I thought we should make our own separate pages, but it was giving me a headache so just attach a document. See you all on Monday. PS I turned in my portfolio and practicum stuff to Nancy on Thursday, I will bring it in for you to see...4.0 baby.

Tuesday, June 5th the tech team for East Valley School District added programs to our computers. Ever since then I have not been able to use MS word or bring up my principal papers on the PBwiki. Yikes!!! Amanda the tech team is working on my computer. I will get my paper to you tonight at Barnes and Nobel
I love the other papers everyone has written. I did a little editing earlier and hope that was ok.

I have been typing like a crazy woman. Perhaps, I should have edited the previous page.
Joann,How did your interview go for CV?
A library position has opened for East Valley School District but it does not state a school. Three Teacher Libraians are retiring and they are only replacing one so far. I wonder what will happen? Pam the job is listed on EV website.
